Celebrating 25 Years with Rosie!

Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating an incredible milestone – 25 years since Rosie Taylor, our dedicated Compliance Manager, became part of our Group. Over the past quarter of a century, Rosie has been instrumental in shaping our compliance standards, ensuring excellence across our business. To mark this special occasion, we sat down with Rosie to reflect on her journey, her proudest achievements, and her insights into the future of compliance within the recruitment industry.

25 years is an incredible milestone! Take us back to when you first joined and share how your role has evolved over the years.

How time flies and what an amazing journey it has been! I joined the company soon after leaving university with no clear ideas on the direction of travel I wanted my career to take. My story with the company began as a Recruitment Administrator based in our Doncaster office when we operated in around six locations. Given I had recently graduated, I had no prior dealings with employment businesses or knowledge of recruitment. Within a year, my role evolved and extended to supporting all of our northern recruitment operations with payroll and administration and then the following year, when an opportunity arose to move into a Head Office based position within the Central Support Team, looking after HR administration, I accepted this new challenge learning many new skills and valuable knowledge of both the organisation and recruitment during my time in that department. At the time I moved into this role, I trained as an internal auditor and undertaking the internal audit programme became a fundamental part of my duties.

Since joining the organisation, I have seen the company grow and evolve over time and in turn, my career has evolved, expanded and developed, leading to the formation of the Compliance department and my progression to Compliance Manager in 2015. Since then, my primary focus has been to build a Compliance team committed to providing optimal compliance support to the organisation.

What achievement are you most proud of in your time here?

I do feel that the company has recognised my personal commitment and efforts over the years and I have been lucky enough to have received awards for my contribution. There have been key milestones achieved, such as ISO accreditations and audit successes, during my time here, which I have been proud to have played a part in. I can’t really isolate one personal achievement that really stands as my proudest moment, as everything I have achieved has been a result of team work and shared efforts. I work with so many fantastic and talented individuals and have been proud to have had my career shaped by great mentors and leaders. I must say, if asked to pinpoint one special moment, I would say it is probably in early 2024 when our team were awarded support team of the year as voted for by our colleagues. This was something special we could celebrate together and I was proud to have been a part of that success.

Have there been any particularly memorable challenges you’ve had to overcome?

I’m struggling to think of anything specific, that is not to say challenges do not occur from time to time that the team and I need to overcome. Teamwork and the support of colleagues is crucial when challenges arise and I like to think that I look for solutions and keep positive even during the most difficult of times. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow and move forward; a driver for continuous improvement and a chance to make positive changes.

How do you see compliance in recruitment evolving in the future?

As you would expect, during my tenure I have seen quite a few changes and developments to compliance requirements in recruitment. What I will say is that compliance does not stand still; it is continually evolving and ever changing. Keeping apprised of forthcoming changes to keep knowledge current is fundamental and keeps it interesting.

In the future, I see compliance in recruitment being shaped by emerging technology (such as use of AI) coupled with changing legislation. The proposals within Employment Rights Bill will drive significant reforms throughout the recruitment industry as a whole, to which organisations will need to respond and adapt, taking appropriate action to ensure they continue to meet legal requirements. Compliance monitoring will play an important part in ensuring suitable systems and processes are in place to mitigate any risks.

What’s the most surprising thing people don’t realise about working in compliance?

That’s a great question and not one that’s easy to answer. Perhaps the unpredictability and wide-ranging nature of the role and the scope of compliance seem to broaden over time. Working in Compliance is never dull, there is always plenty to do and no two days are the same. When you think you have seen it all, there will always be something to surprise you!

A huge thank you to Rosie for sharing her experiences and for her unwavering dedication over the past 25 years. Her expertise, commitment, and passion have had a lasting impact on our business, and we’re incredibly grateful for all she has contributed. Congratulations once again on this remarkable milestone – here’s to the next chapter in your journey with us!
