Sheffield Professionals tee off to raise £3,000 for The Archer Project
Business owners and professionals from Sheffield and South Yorkshire businesses recently took part in a charity golf day at Wortley Golf Club to raise £3000 for The Archer Project.
The golf day was held on Friday 24 September and was attended by 56 golfers representing 11 companies. The lead sponsor of the event was UK wide talent management specialists Nicholas Associates Group which has its HQ based in Rotherham. Its brands include Apprentice Employment Agency, Nicholas Associates, Stafforce, Ashley Kate HR & Finance, olano and Erango, which operate from offices UK wide.
Other sponsors of the event included CSP Systems based in Barnsley.
The winning team won on countback scoring 79 points and represented Meals & More, and individual team prizes went to Ben Carr for longest drive and Alex Milton and Matty Gardner for nearest the pin.
All the money raised from the 2021 golf day will benefit The Archer Project which was founded in response to a decade of decline following the upheaval of Sheffield’s core industries in the 1980’s which caused rising levels of unemployment, poverty and poor health.
By 1989 Sheffield Cathedral had become a regular place of shelter for people who had nowhere else to go and nothing to do. The Archer Project has since established itself as a city centre venue where homeless people feel welcomed and are offered support to move away from homelessness.
Commenting Lynne Urpeth, Fundraising Team Manager from Archer Project said. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part in the golf day. Fundraising is really important as it helps us continue to provide vital services to homeless people. This aid enables them to develop their independence, improve mental health and change behaviours so they are better able to tackle set backs.”
Commenting on the success of the golf day, Bruce Allen FD at Nicholas Associates Group said “We were delighted to get involved with the Archer Project their ethos of ‘from sleeping bag to employment’ directly aligns with our mission ‘to enable people to be their best’ We look forward to helping them organise further fundraising events that will help homeless people to lead fulfilling, stable and enjoyable lives.”
The services provided by The Archer Project include 1-1 support and signposting, provision of in-house nurse and dental clinics, and access to hot food and showers. This includes a programme of activities to help people learn skills, enjoy new experiences and gain accreditations. A structured volunteer programme also helps people to grow their confidence, giving them employment opportunities in their two social enterprises, Just Works and PrintedbyUs.
