National Three Peaks Run to restore mental health

Adventurer and mental health activist Alex Staniforth completed his epic Three Peaks Run on Sunday 30th August on Snowdon in the most gruelling of his many exploits to support mental health.

Alex was attempting to break the current record of RUNNING up, down and between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, which stands at 9 days, 11hrs and 39 minutes (by Tom Mountney) – just missing the time target by an hour.

Alex managed to complete his 450-mile run in 9 days 12 hours and 51 minutes – an incredible feat, amounting to the equivalent of two marathons a day. This is despite a number of setbacks before he’d even started the run on Ben Nevis on Friday 21st August.

“Even getting to the start line was a challenge with a sprained ankle 3 weeks beforehand.

I never realised I would have so much more to contend with, in the weather, more injuries and sleep deprivation. At times I couldn’t run more than 10 metres due to the pain.

Like anything in life, the most important thing is to keep moving forwards and we can get there in the end, even if slowly”, says 25-year-old Alex from Cheshire, now based in Kendal.”

However, he’s well on his way to raising the £10k goal which he set for his new charity Mind Over Mountains which helps people with mental health issues by experiencing the joys of the outdoors like many of us have started to do more regularly since lockdown.

“The support and generosity along the way was truly humbling and it was great to bring people back together after the recent months of lockdown. My physical battle may be over now but for many with mental health issues the battle is only just beginning and I really hope this run will inspire and encourage people to seek help  – I’m delighted to have hit my £10k target for Mind Over Mountains to make those miles count.”

Alex is available for interview via Zoom or phone as he recovers from his ordeal (the equivalent of running almost 2 marathons a day!) to talk about the Three Peaks Run and the work of his charity Mind Over Mountains.

We are proud to be involved with Alex as a brand ambassador and by supporting his charity Mind Over Mountains. Last year Alex motivated our teams to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, we believe he is a true inspiration.
