My Internship in Graduate Recruitment
My name is Owen Kynman and I’ve been working at Nicholas Associates Group as a Marketing Administrator for a little over a month now as part of an internship opportunity. I’m a student at Sheffield Hallam University studying Information Technology with Business Studies and I’m about to enter my final year of studies. I was presented this opportunity from an employability advisor at Sheffield Hallam University and I saw this as a chance to obtain some valuable experience in a field which I’m very intrigued by. I was fortunate enough to be successful through the interview stage and land my position here which I couldn’t be happier with! Working within the marketing team, I was handed the responsibility of managing the Nicholas Associates Graduate Placements socials from the get-go. I was provided with brilliant insight into the world of marketing by my manager, Joanne Wilson, and my colleague, Isabelle Gent, who aided me whenever I needed support and provided me with extremely valuable industry-related experiences. I have been able to develop industry-related skills through my role and I’ve seen my work make an impact which is extremely encouraging for me. The NA team are absolutely fantastic as well, it’s apparent they are well-knitted family who support each other with everything they do and I appreciate them welcoming me with open arms.
Speaking more specifically about my role within Nicholas Associates Graduate Placements, I help support the Graduate Recruitment team by managing the social channels as well as creating content for the brand. Examples of responsibilities include creating job advertisement graphics, creating engaging content to interact with our audience, communicating with candidates across the social channels, analyzing trends and performing competitor analysis, tracking social channel analytics etc. Speaking about the Graduate Recruitment team themselves, they are absolutely brilliant at their jobs and I highly recommend them to any job seekers who have recently graduated from university. They deal with all ranges of graduates from engineering to computing and so on in the effort to secure them a job in their preferred field. They are extremely attentive, outgoing, friendly and easily reachable; they hold all the qualities you require from a recruiter. Having worked closely with them during my time here at Nicholas Associates Group, it’s simple to recognise they are encouraged and committed individuals who truly care about their candidates and want to help them begin their careers in their chosen fields.
As my time as an intern at Nicholas Associates Group comes to an end, my development and experiences are still increasing by the day. I have now begun to work with other brands under Nicholas Associates Group, such as Stafforce, which gives me a fantastic insight into how target audiences can differ so drastically and how you have to adapt your marketing strategies to apply to your suitors. It has truly been a fantastic experience working briefly in this industry environment and seeing firsthand how an office operates with colleagues interacting and functioning as a team. It will be a sad day leaving this company but, I feel I have progressed drastically as an individual and I’m fully prepared to begin my career in marketing once I graduate from university. One thing is for certain though, I will be in contact with the Graduate Placements team to help me secure my first job in industry!
